CELPIP is a fully computer-based test consisting of four parts: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

The maximum score for CELPIP is12 points, and each part is scored separately.

  • You are able to engage in everyday communication and exchange information in text format in daily conversations

  • You understand communication about everyday activities and can recognize the attitude of the author of a text or the speaker of an audio recording

  • You can understand unfamiliar headlines in informal or semi-formal situations

  • You can understand audio speech on non-specialized topics in social and news 

  • You can understand the subject matter and a lot of factual information in more formal speeches on complex topics (such as social events, business or politics). You can also identify different viewpoints in the speech and the different arguments supporting these viewpoints.

  • You can express yourself effectively and appropriately in social and more formal situations

  • You can organize both daily and formal information coherently

  • You are familiar with common and formal writing conventions, such as inviting guest speakers, arranging meetings for clients, applying to universities, etc.

  • You are familiar with more complex or sophisticated syntax to help you understand information

  • You can search for useful information from text in graphical formats such as tables and graphs

  • You can identify organizational structures, ideas, and facts in descriptive or factual text about topics with which you are unfamiliar or unspecialized

  • You can make inferences by combining 2 or more pieces of information.

  • Whether it is a familiar or unfamiliar text/audio, you can discern the author/speaker's position through application and attitude changes

  • You can identify the relationship between the author and the reader/speaker and the listener for both familiar and unfamiliar texts/audio.

  • You can fit in more complex headlines such as social issues, business or politics and follow most of the main themes in the text/audio. You can identify the different opinions in this information or the many arguments used to support opinions and ideas.
